About

My name is Steven Spratling. I am a Tennessee native who has visited most of the United States, parts of Lithuania, and Estonia, and I lived in Russia for two years. I am a writer and editor with extensive experience in both crafting and teaching expositional, rhetorical, and analytic writing and substantial experience in creative writing and blogging. I received an MA in English Literature from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. I have taught English composition to university undergraduates and one class of high-school seniors in Tennessee. I also taught English as a second language in various cities throughout the Urals in Russia.

My interests have varied within the scope of English Literature, and could now be more readily categorized as focused on cultural studies and Queer theory. I have a passion for the undead and monsters/monstrosity, television, video games, and comedy. I have published and presented papers covering such topics as current research in Restoration studies, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and teaching metaphor as a tool for composition. I also taught a course titled “Inquiry into the Undead,” using various forms of the undead as a focusing mechanism to teach university-level research and writing. Most recently, I presented a paper on the monstrosity of cuckolds in William Wycherley’s The Country Wife.
